Customer Rating: Summary: Awe aspiring view of Earth's special conditions Comment: Earth: an insignificant speck in the vast & meaningless universe or designed not only to support life, but also to give us the best view of the universe? This and other questions are presented with excellent visuals, making it very educational for both adults and children. It takes on the Copernican principle that states "the Earth is not in a central, specially favored position", showing that while the Earth is not in a certain kind of "central position", it surely is in a very favored position. Favored position in many respects:
- Finely-tuned forces of nature (speed of light, strong nuclear force, cosmological constant, etc), such that even an extremely small change would make it impossible for life to exist.
- Specially favorable conditions for the Earth such as: right temperature for liquid water, right atmosphere, right distance from the sun, just-right position within our galaxy, and even just right for viewing lunar eclipses. To consider the various aspects and statistics elaborated in the film, is quite astounding.
Just reflect on what Albert Einstein said: "The most incomprehensible thing about the universe is that it is comprehensible".

Customer Rating: Summary: Indeed. A most special planet. Comment: This is a wonderful production. Stunning to watch and the information presented points out how unlikely, (impossible) that all the requirements for life on this planet could come about by pure happenstance. It can be a great teaching tool as well as entertainment. Buy it!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing Comment: This video is an amazing look at the intricacy of our planet and it's place in the universe and how intelligence must be needed to allow for something as unique as our home in this hostile and diverse universe.
Customer Rating: Summary: An answer for Bertrand Russell Comment: The famous philosopher Bertrand Russell was asked that if after his death he discovered God does exist, what would be his response? He replied he would ask God "why did you take such pains to hide yourself?" This video provides a solid answer to that question.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great DVD!! Comment: Our planet is clearly special amongst all the rest. It was designed specially from God. The earth is placed in the exact location for life here and for the observation for the rest of the universe. This is not a religious documentary; it is very scientific and factual.

Today, most scientists and philosophers claim that Earth is an ordinary speck of dust adrift, without purpose or significance, in a vast cosmic sea. This idea (popularized by the late astronomer, Carl Sagan) is an outgrowth of the naturalistic philosophy that has dominated science for the past 150 years. Yet, remarkable evidence--unveiled by contemporary astronomy and physics-may now tell a very different story. Building upon the overwhelming success of Unlocking the Mystery of Life (widely acclaimed as the most effective refutation of Darwinian theory, ever produced), Illustra Media presents The Privileged Planet. This hour-long documentary explores the scientific evidence for intelligent design and purpose in the universe. In the process, Earth is revealed as far more than the product of time, chance, and random natural processes. We now know that a rare and finely tuned array of factors makes Earth suitable for complex life. We depend on our planet's oxygen-rich atmosphere, its large moon, its planetary neighbors, and its precise location within the solar system and Milky Way galaxy. But the story does not end here. For, the same factors that make a planet like Earth hospitable to life also provide the best conditions for scientific discovery. Is this correlation merely a coincidence? Or does it point to a deeper truth about the purpose of the cosmos and the reality of a transcendent designer? The answer could dramatically affect 21st century science. Through stunning computer animation, interviews with leading scientists, and spectacular images of Earth and the cosmos, The Privileged Planet explores a startling connection between our capacity to survive and our ability to observe and understand the universe. A connection that points directly to the work of a creative mind and plan. This extraordinary documentary will be a focal point in the escalating debate between evolution and design.
