Customer Rating: Summary: Seamlessness Comment: Absolutely incredible performance. No overdubbing here, friends. With Rutter at the helm, this group plays as if the piece never existed on paper, floating seamlessly through this many metered montage of ethereal aural bliss. Buy this now, strap on your Sennheiser's and prepare for a very serious voyage.
Customer Rating: Summary: Superb CD Comment: Rutter's Gloria is a superb piece of 20th century music and this recording is crisp and caputes this composer at his best. I'm a singer and our group will perform this work in December. Many in our group have purchased the CD to help learn the music. It's ideal because we hear not only the music but also the spirit that I think Rutter intended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Audio Joy in a box Comment: I don't know which is better: John Rutter's composing gift or the performance of the Cambridge Singers. Put them together and you have joy for your ears, mind and heart. Few would disagree that the Cambridge Singers are just about the best choral group in the world today, and this recording is a good example of their work (the pure singing with little or no vibrato is perfect for a sacred work such as this one). As for Rutter's "Gloria," I have sung it in concert (both in the chorus and as soloist) and listened to it countless times. Sometimes when I sing along, it just takes my breath away! Listen to the passage in the second movement, "Domine Deus, Rex caelestis" - it's almost literally uplifting! Both of our sons loved this recording as soon as they heard it, and the 14-year-old can sing it (in Latin) by heart just from repeated listenings. This is no stodgy old piece - it's full of challenging rhythms, a few modern harmonies and FANTASTIC brass and percussion performances. You CAN'T be sad or depressed after you hear it! The other choral pieces on the collection are excellent - some of my all-time favorite short works, BTW! BUY IT.
