Summary: Came just in time for a snow day......
Comment: My son earned up enough money to buy one and talked me into getting it early to "beat the Christmas rush". Got it just in time for a snow day off school. He said it was the best day of his life! He loves it! The screen is much brighter than other Game Boys and easier to see. Small size is fun too. Actual color of system is funky too.

Comment: I have had Game Boys since the first one came out in '89. Yep, I'm an old man of gaming.
The original was just amazing. It was the first one to have a dot matrix LCD. The GB Color, I never bought; didn't have enough colors or size advantage to be worth the trouble. Then, came the Game Boy Advance. The original, big chunky one. I did a mod to install a "backlight." in it. It turned out to be a "front light" and was 100% worthless. Then, came the SP. It was great. I had the NES Limited Edition. That one bit the dust when I put it in my motorcycle trunk with some chinese food and it got a good bath in Sweet & Sour. I was willing to take it apart & clean it, except that Nintendo, in its infinite wisdom, decided to use proprietary three-point screws that made it very hard.
Fast forward a while. I saw the micro in the store. I got the last Famicom edition. Oh my god is this ever nice. In a word: Liberating. All other proper portable game systems are just too big to carry in a pocket, unless it is a dedicated pocket. The Micro swims in a typical pocket. It is so small & light, it is great. The screen is smaller, but is also higher resolution, so you don't lose anything. I will admit that after playing for a couple hours, when I finally look up, it takes a few seconds for my eyes to start re-focusing on everything that is further away than a foot, hehehe.
However, the brightness is good, the controls are good, and the quality is great. I have put off buying a DS for a long time now. I'm going to finally get one for Christmas 2008 since they finally have a good selection of good games for it.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm an old-school gamer. After the original Playstation, I got away from console games and went 100% portable. Portable games can be enjoyed while waiting in lines, while riding as passenger in the car, on lunch and bathroom breaks at work. But as an old school gamer, I'm not impressed with modern games' graphics. Sure, they look great. But the games ceased to be fun. I prefer side-scrolling or overhead view games to 3D games. They just tend to be more fun.
If that is the case with you too, snap up one of these Micros while they are still available. Either here, or on ebay. Buy your favorite GBA games for it while you're at it. My favorite GBA game is Bionic Commando. Yep, I'm old school.
Time to open my mind a bit and buy a DS Lite, but you won't catch me selling my Micro. It is small enough that I *always* have it with me. It even hids well in dress pants pockets without making me look like a big dork. No one can ever tell I'm packin'. My latest thing is taking it with me when my wife drags me out shopping. I can burn as much time as I need to. All I need is a place to sit down.
Don't think of this as old technology. Think of it as something that was never appreciated when it was new, and something that they haven't made anything like it since then.
Some meat-head put a picture of something other than the GBA Micro for the top of this review. Ignore that. It is about the little system.
I don't believe they are even selling these new any more.

Summary: Micro is a waste of money
Comment: Both the GBA and GBA SP are backward compliant with GB and GBC games. Not true with the Micro. So don't waste your money on this thing, get an SP. They both have a lit screen and rechargeable battery, but the SP has the added benefit of playing ANY gameboy title.

Comment: I still remember getting this 2 years ago for christmas. I instantly fell in love with it. Its small, compact, the screen is bright, and the sound is nice. When your in an area, and you have nothing to do, you could just slip it out of your pocket and play. Its great for travel purposes as well.
