Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent cold pack Comment: Durable and seems to "hold the cold" very effectively. Great for knees, shoulders and back.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product Comment: This is the same company and product many physical therapists use and recommend. Excellent value, and can be used for many purposes.
Customer Rating: Summary: JDB Comment: While away from home I needed an ice pack for my swollen feet. A friend had a Chattanooga Standard Size ice pack that she allowed me to borrow. It was great! It was the perfect size to fit on both feet. I ordered 2, one for home and one for the road. Shipping was quick and easy and delivered before I expected!
Customer Rating: Summary: The best cold pacs I've found thus far Comment: I've had knee surgery, and back trouble, and these are far and away the best cold packs I've tried (as of this writing). Both of the physical therapy centers I've frequented use them extensively, I own three myself, and plan to get several more, so that I use them in rotation, two at work, two at home, and one for travel between. They're also handy for picnic coolers (to drape over the contents inside a cooler, to keep them cold from the top down). I sometimes use my 'travel' spare to keep highly perishable (or frozen) groceries extra cool while transporting them from the store to home.
STRENGTHS:
* They're very pliable (they get firmer with once you get below -10F, but are still sufficiently pliable down to -15F) and conform well to your body ... this one is ideal for the back, and the knee. Because they're pliablem, they're extra freezer-friendly - you can fold them in half to take up less space in there, or leave them flat for faster re-chilling.
* They chill fairly quickly, and hold a fair amount of cold. They claim 30 mins, but it's really only 20, with direct contact ... 30 if you fold it in half, and put a towel over it, before applying it.
* Long life - I've had mine for 3 years, and so far only one of them has lost seal and begun to develop a bubble inside.
MINOR NITS:
* Because they're so pliable, you sometimes have to put them on a hard surface and sorta stretch and squish them back into proper rectangular shape, with an even thickness.
* I wish these were about 10-15% thicker, so that they held their cold just a tad longer otherwise, they're nearly perfect.
Highly recommended.
p.s. There are two versions of this product. According to the sales clerk I spoke to at Chattanoga just now, the blue vinyl ones (which I own) are made by one manufacturer, and have a 1 year warrantee. The black polyurethane ones are made by a different manufacturer, and supposedly feel the same, but only have a 6 month warrantee.
p.p.s. Watch out for venders who try to rip you off by advertising an artificially low sale price, and then try to sock it to you with absurd S&H costs. For instance, I just shopped 2 different suppliers here on amazon with an order for 3 of these ... one of them only wanted $8 total S&H (reasonable), and the other had a cheaper list price but wanted $30 for S&H (scam alert !). It pays to comparison shop.
