Customer Rating: Summary: A movie would be better. Comment: I did not like the play as well as I liked the book. I would love to see it as a movie with Allen Payne starring in the same role as he did in the play. All in all was okay, but I do wish I had rented it before buying it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Men, yes we sometimes cry in the dark. Comment: Men Cry In The Dark
This was an AWESOME play and book. I read the book by Michael Biasden and loved the play. I saw the live performance and purchased the DVD. I really don't agree with the review that compared it to The Brothers. There was more to the story than that. Yes there were some slight parallels but it held it's own weight onscreen and in the literary world.
This play portrayed the good and bad of the male emotional rollercoaster. Although the on-stage production could not give you every detail of what each man went through due to time, I would like to suggest that you read the novel because it gives more of the backstory of each character and you actually can see where the stage personalities came from. The production was spot on and I feel that the cast portrayed the characters true to form. It was a mix of good times with friends, relationship issues, family issues, and revenge of jealous people who sometimes pose as friends.
Kudos to the writers, producers, cast, musicians, and everyone who worked on this project.
This is a great purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: Men Cry in the Dark Comment: This was an excellent play. Very funny and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys good African American plays.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not What I Expected Comment: I haven't actually made it through the whole play yet because it's so filled with cursing and sexual conversations, and I don't think I want to. I don't recommend this one for anyone. I bought it thinking is was another Christian play, but I was wrong.
Customer Rating: Summary: GRREAT!!!! Comment: I was lucky enough to see this play when it came to my city (Though Allen Payne wasn't there). It was great I am a HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Christopher Williams fan and he was excellent. I was even lucky enough to talk w/ him on the phone back in the early 90's and took a piture w/ him during intermission of this play. It was good and I recommend it to everyone.
