Summary: Nice version of a wonderful tale
Comment: Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books (and my mom's all time fave), and I've seen several film adaptations. The book is so rich and complex that I don't think any of them do a perfect job, but this one is worth seeing. Both the leads do a good job, especially Ruth Wilson as a convincing Jane. The director did some interesting things with symbolism which I actually liked. However I have to say it's not that much better than any of the others I've seen (I particularly like the Timothy Dalton, the William Hurt, and even the old black and white with Orson Welles) and I felt after I bought the dvd that I probably should have just rented it because I don't think I'll be wanting to re-watch it that often.

Summary: By Far the Best
Comment: I am a die hard Jane Eyre fan and have collected many versions of the tale as it has adapted to the screen. Of all the versions I have viewed, Masterpiece Theatre's by far takes the cake. After renting it I just had to own it, and from now on this will be the version I watch. Toby Stephens is handsome, but somewhat rugged at the same time. And Ruth Wilson's Jane is by far the best--she shows an incredible array of emotions, and you truly get the same feeling you did when reading the books of the love she holds for Mr. Rochester. This version far exceeds the 1980s rendition from the BBC with Timothy Dalton. If you love the book and want to see your favorite love story adapted perfectly to the screen, this is your best choice.

Summary: Jane Eyre
Comment: Excellent, well-produced screenplay and movie. Sexy without showing skin. Thoughtful and relevant, especially for any woman who may be thinking she has to compromise her standards to get the guy. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Absolutely Wonderful
Comment: I am a die-hard Jane Eyre fan, and Masterpiece Theatre definitely impressed me. Toby Stephens captures Mr. Rochester's character perfectly, and Ruth Wilson carries out the challenging role of Jane Eyre with grace and naturality. The only thing that I didn't like is that Jane and Mr. Rochester are much more physical than they are in the book, but it doesn't distract from the original story. I would recommend this adaptation to anyone who has read the book!

Summary: A diffrence of opinion
Comment: Realitives told me how good this movie was and so I decided to buy it.
However, in my opinion it wasn't worth the money I spent on it. I was sadly disappointed in this purchase.

Editorial Reviews:

After a wretched childhood, orphaned Jane Eyre yearns for new experiences. She accepts a governess position at Thornfield Hall, where she tutors a lively French girl named Adele. She soon finds herself falling in love with the brooding master of the house - the passionate Mr. Rochester. Jane gradually wins his heart, but they must overcome the dark secrets of the past before they can find happiness. When Jane saves Rochester from an eerie fire, she begins to suspect that there are many mysteries behind the walls of Thornfield Hall. Her fears are confirmed when Rochester's secret past is revealed, destroying her chance for happiness, and forcing Jane to flee Thornfield. Penniless and hungry, she finds shelter and friendship in the shape of a kind clergyman and his family. But she is soon shocked to uncover the deeply hidden truth of her own past. This lavish and sensual new version of Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel is modern and moody, timeless and romantic. Starring Toby Stephens as Mr. Rochester, Ruth Wilson as Jane, and Francesca Annis as Lady Ingram.
